Hi, I’m Caroline an artist based in Birmingham.
Originally from the Isle of Wight, I grew up surrounded by the sea. I’ve since moved to pretty much the middle of the UK with no coastline for miles (still not over it), but the sea continues to find its way into my work.
I’m particularly drawn to mediums that have a mind of their own. Watercolour, acrylic and texture all have a certain amount of unpredictability and I love the moments where a painting does something I didn’t plan for.
Perhaps that’s because it’s the complete opposite of my personality and my day job. I’m naturally quite organised and fond of knowing what’s going on. Painting gives me a chance to let go of that a bit, make a mess and see what happens.
My work sits somewhere between abstract art and my ongoing obsession with florals. I create original pieces designed to bring a little personality, calm and character into your home without taking themselves too seriously.
I work full-time in the interior design world and paint around my 9–5, usually with music on and a coffee nearby. The plan is to eventually make considerably more art and considerably fewer spreadsheets.
